Auto Body Repair
|
Automotive body repair technicians are specialists who deal in the repair of a vehicle's exterior shell, known as the body. The body of a vehicle in general is fragile and easily susceptible to damage from collisions and other kinds of car accidents, weather, rust, and more. Auto body repairers either replace or fix the metal or fiberglass sections of body that have been damaged on vehicles, and generally replace the paint, or else work in conjunction with painters who apply matching paint to the chipped and missing sections, thus restoring the original appearance.
Auto body technicians repair a wide variety of things from simple touch ups to scratches, to entire sections of the body. In the case of minor damage, filler can often be used to smooth out dips in the body and restore a smooth surface where dents and gouges cannot otherwise be properly fixed. Some auto body repairers specialize in the restoration of the bodies of classic cars, and spend many hours grinding down the old metal frames and welding new metal where applicable and then smoothing everything out and painting it to achieve the original look. Auto body repairers often work in shops as specialty mechanics, but many also operate out of their own private garages, especially those who restore the bodies of classic cars.
