Carpentry and Cabinets

Carpenters are specialists involved in a wide variety of construction projects, massive projects like the building of highways and bridges, to smaller projects like the installation of kitchen cabinets. Carpenters design, construct, install, and repair worn and broken structures which generally are made from wood, but sometimes are from other materials, such as plastic and fiberglass. Each carpentry job is somewhat unique, but many of them involve the same basic tasks, whether it be on commercial or residential property. Carpenters use blueprints and also instructions from supervisors to first do layouts of their projects, by measuring, marking, and arranging the various materials. Then they begin their project by cutting and shaping the various pieces, and then finally installing the finished product, making sure that every step along the way their project is up to code, is level and square, structural and safe. In addition to their work in construction projects, carpenters also are often hired to build decks, gazebos, specialty bookcases and cabinets, and to install wood flooring, base boards, paneling and moulding.
