Dentists are medically trained specialists who examine, repair, and protect the teeth, gums, and mouth of human anatomy. Dentists perform a wide variety of routine procedures like removing plaque, teeth cleaning and whitening, enamel building, application of sealants, and more, that both repair current damage as well as prevent many kinds of future damage. They also perform a number of specialized procedures including all kinds of surgery, wisdom tooth removal, root canals, cavities, crowns, among other things. In addition to that, dentists will make recommendations to their patients on their eating and tooth care practices, helping them to do a better job at the maintenance of their own teeth and gums. In general, dentists operate out of offices, and have assistants and technicians who support and help perform the bulk of the many required tasks, and assist in the more specialized procedures as well. With regular visits to the dentist and regular teeth brushing, teeth and gums should keep their optimal performance and function throughout the whole of a person's life.
