Exterior Boat Repair
|
Exterior boat repairers are specialists who deal in the repair of the hulls of boats that have become damaged, which can occur through a wide variety of circumstances including, collisions, improper removal of the boat from the water, unsecured transportation to a storage facility, and normal wear and tear. When exterior components of a boat's hull become damaged, it can lead to leaks, water damage, and even sinking of the boat.
Exterior boat repairers are specialists who properly restore broken sections of a boat's hull to working function, whether the boat be made of fiberglass or wood. With fiberglass boats, boat repairers generally sand down the affected area of the break, and apply new sheets of fiberglass and epoxy, patching the old section, restoring its durability and seaworthiness. With wooden boats, new planks may be needed if the old ones cannot be salvaged. Once the wood is repaired, new layers of varnish and other sealants will be applied to protect the wood from water damage.
In special cases, such as large metal boats, special crews of exterior boat repairers may need to be called upon to repair damaged sections. In the case of extremely large boats, this repair may need to be done underwater, with scuba and welding gear. This requires a very specialized set of tools, equipment, and machinery, which most exterior boat repairers do not possess.
