Family Medicine
|
Family medicine practitioners are medically trained physicians who provide comprehensive, continuing medical care to all members of a family unit, both parents and children. Family medicine practitioners are generalists in the field of medicine, experts trained to diagnose a wide range of ailments and diseases throughout the human body, from patients who are well advanced in years, to newborn children. Once diagnosing their patients, family medicine practitioners often then refer their patients to other doctors who are more specialized in the field of their patient's ailment, such as ear, nose, and throat doctors, or eye doctors, depending on the illness of the patient.
Family medicine practitioners must be familiar with all aspects of human anatomy and be able to diagnose illnesses that spring up from any various place in the human body. Families often hire them because it provides an elevated level of personal contact having a doctor whom all the members of one's family go to for medical help, who knows the details and issues of an entire family's medical state.
