Handymen are specialists in the wide variety of appliances and functions used in homes, such as ovens, stoves, refrigerators, washing machines, water heaters, plumbing, and more. Handymen have a general knowledge of how all the systems of a home function, and are hired when one or more of those systems have issues or break down. Handymen usually work as single proprietors who take on clients, but some are regularly paid employees of a larger organization. They also have been hired to help with home remodels, renovations, and additions, taking out the old systems and installing the new. Handymen are responsible to diagnose the problem of the broken appliance or system, obtain the proper parts for its repair, and finally to repair the proper system. Sometimes, especially with older systems, handymen may or may not have access to the parts needed for the repair. In such a case, handymen may be hired to obtain and install a new system in place of the old. In such a case, some handymen also specialize in junk removal or recycling of the old system.
