Optometrist

Optometrists are medically trained doctors who specialize in diagnosing and treating the human eye. Optometrists are experts in vision, and help their clients overcome barriers to their sight that arise from a wide variety of conditions, including general wear and age. Often prescribing glasses and contacts, optometrists work with the specific needs of each client to provide the right tools to improve their vision to its fullest potential. Optometrists often have office assistants and technicians who perform many of the tests required to properly gage a person's eyesight, and they work with the optometrists themselves to help diagnose and treat the patients. Beyond that, optometrists often perform specialty surgery, such as lasik laser surgery, glaucoma, and cataract removal. For serious eye injury however, optometrists may refer patients to other doctors and surgeons, and patients who arrive at an emergency room with eye damage, often are treated by different kinds of doctors.
