Pilates is a physical fitness system that was developed by a doctor in Germany in the early 1900's. It uses some traditional principles from yoga and other methods to improve flexibility and strength, creating balance in the body and promoting general health and wellness. Pilates instructors are professional instructors who are proficient enough in the pilates system that they can competently lead, instruct, and train others in its practice.
In general, pilates instructors often lead whole groups of persons on a routine weekly or biweekly basis or by doing workshops, and usually direct their students by going through the exercises with them, coaching them in the proper methods, techniques, and positions. Pilates instructors regularly hold classes outdoors in nature to also promote relaxation and mental health, leading their students in that of aspect of personal development as well, and so covering a holistic approach to exercise that positively affects both body and mind.
