Surfboard Repair
|
Surfboard repairers are individuals who specialize in the damage that often occurs to surfboards in their natural use. Surfboards rely on two systems working in tandem to achieve their strength and lightweight nature: the foam core and the fiberglass coating. Often, when the fiberglass of a surfboard is cracked or damaged, water can begin to seep into the foam core, destroying its buoyancy and ruining the entire surfboard. Surfboard repairers have one main job, to fix damage to the fiberglass coating, to repair the skegs and leash, or whatever damages the surfboard has sustained.
They must be familiar with fiberglass and the proper way to make an epoxy solution, and how the two systems combine to create a hard, watertight shield around the surfboard's foam core. Surfboards can often be easily fixed by adding new fiberglass and epoxy to the damaged areas and then sanding them down to make them smooth again.
