Translator
|
Translators, also known as interpreters, are language professionals with fluency and expertise in multiple languages, generally two. Translators enable accurate cross-cultural communication which is becoming more and more necessary in modern society. They convert one language into another by relaying not only the words, but also the concepts, ideas, and meaning of words between languages in the right context, accounting for slang, idioms, and the complexity often present in language. They must have a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter in which they work to accurately convert information between languages. They also generally undergo specialized training in keeping focus while interpreting and conveying information quickly and simultaneously.
In translation the original language is known as the source language, and the relayed message is translated into the target language. Translators and interpreters must also be sensitive to the cultures associated with their languages of specialization. Translators are often hired for transcribing documents from one language to another, and many opportunities exist in government for translation jobs. Sign language is also a form of interpretation and translation, and sign language professionals convert words to signals and vice versa.
