Veterinarians are medically trained animal and pet physicians, who specialize in animal biology and the treatment of injuries, illnesses, and conditions they may incur. Veterinarians generally operate out of offices, though many will make special home visits in emergencies. Their tasks vary greatly depending on their specialization. Veterinarians help control the population of animals by spaying and neutering house pets. They also routinely involved in the wellbeing and health of animals and livestock on farms and ranches. Some veterinarians specialize in animal surgery, while others are general practitioners of animal medicine. Some veterinarians also will perform some amounts of pet grooming. Veterinarians are especially sensitive to the behavior of animals, needing to form sometimes difficult diagnoses without the descriptive help of their patients, and are experts in how to handle animals who are scared and confused.
